well, that was fun!!

whew!  It is with a sigh of relief that I officially announce that we finished at the Quaker Arts festival.  It was a ton of fun, and a ton of work - but I really enjoyed every minute of it (okay, maybe not those few minutes the baby decided to lay down her own soundtrack with the crying and carrying on).  Tina and I had a blast.  Speaking of Tina, here she is at the festival.

hmm, that tag line sounds a little risque.

seriously - this weekend my crafty friend Tina and I are joining forces over at the Quaker Arts Festival.  While both Tina and I have been crafting for over a year, this is our first time trying our hand at such a large venue.  Estimated attendance is close to 75,000 visitors over two days.  I will be selling oodles of quilts, burp cloths, aprons, and bags (pictures of those soon I promise) stop on by and say hi if you are in the area! 

If you are hitting this page as a result of seeing my work this weekend, leave a note in the comments section.  I am interested in seeing how well my charming personality and adorable business cards work at driving traffic to this site.  I will be raffeling off a tote bag or hostess apron to one of the commentors at the end of the weekend.

Oh, and here is my attempt at painting my babypeas sign.  It is a good thing I work in textiles as opposed to paint I think.  Although the adorable Anna makes up for my lack of paintbrush skills.

Aprons galore!

So, I am bummed because after spending 2 hours last night trying unsuccessfully to get a post up about the aprons I have made, not only did I fail because my internet connection was painfully slow, but I then discovered that my photos are a little blurry.  I think it has something to do with my flash as it didn't seem like it was working right. 

Anyway, here are some pictures of my reversible hostess aprons that I designed.  They are 23 x 18 with generously long apron ties.  Some of the aprons have 2 pockets, some have 3 - it really depended on how much of which fabric I had leftover!

My favorite apron (especially for this time of year!) is the teachers apron.  It is adorable back to school prints and has three pockets sized perfectly to hold an assortment of hall passes, chalk, and confiscated goods from the students!

First set of placemats!

After several trial and error runs, I finally have developed a good solid method for making the placemats.  The finished size is 18x14 and they have a layer of quilt batting and are backed with a cream colored canvas to give them some heft.

This set is a brown and orange "fall" type theme.

my favorite quilt (so far)

This is my favorite quilt of the baby quilts that I have made.  It is a fairly simple pattern that results in a 32"x29" baby quilt.  The top is made of Michael Miller, Joel Dewberry, and Amy Butler fabrics with some fabulously fun furry fleece thrown in for texture and interest.  It is quilted with a cotton/silk blend batting, and backed with cream colored chenille. 

Surprisingly sewing with the furry fleece was not as difficult as I had thought and once it is sewn, it doesn't "shed" all over the place like I had feared.  Cutting it was another matter entirely and it really does make a huge mess when you are cutting it. 

first things first!

well, here is my first blog entry for babypeas.  i have decided to make a real go of this business and am jumping in full force.  Keep looking over the next few days as I actually put some content up, and start to get this ball rolling.  First things first however, I will have a table at the upcoming Alden Art Show on Sept. 7th, the Buffalo Indie Market on Sept 14th, and Tina (from polkadotbug) and I have decided to combine forces and participate in the Quaker Arts Festival.  Hold on to your hats folks, this is going to be a wild ride coming up!
